Blood vessels in human hand and contactless card combine to create secure biometric IDs

Forget fingerprints. A Toronto, Ontario company wants the whole hand involved. And it’s not talking palm prints. It wants to identify the blood vessels in your hand.

Identica Corp. has linked its Universal Controller with a hand vascular scanner manufactured by a Korean company. The result is a biometric access control mechanism solution that it claims is accurate, fast, and non-intrusive for users.

Gemalto announced the launch of ProtivaMedSecure, a solution package that addresses one of challenges facing health care providers: a secure digital identity.

Gemalto’s Protiva MedSecure provides a portfolio of authentication software, digital credentials, secure devices, servers and associated services. The Gemalto solution provides a single credential for secure visual identity, as well as physical and logical access to medical facilities and electronic medical records.

Proxama has announced a partnership with semiconductor supplier ARM Holdings to create secure payment mechanisms for mobile handsets.

The UK-based partners say they will combine ARM’s TrustZone technology with Proxama’s Mobile Wallet to develop a “highly secure” environment for NFC-enabled mobile contactless payments and mobile internet payments.

Biometrics provider Human Recognition Systems has developed an improved real time intelligence metric using fusion biometrics.

The system is based on the MForce identification platform and was developed as an open architecture called Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS). With the new architecture, MForce can combine match scores from multiple biometric modalities, which improves the overall reliability identification rate, even if the data is poor or incomplete.

NXP Semiconductors and HID Global announced a partnership to create a global, generic mobile access solution for NFC-enabled mobile phones.

Developed jointly by the partners, the solution takes existing contactless cards that employees use to enter corporate buildings and parking garages and transfers them to the embedded NXP secure element on an NFC-enabled phone.
