Blackboard hopes its new Universal Edition™ will have universal appeal to both existing and potential clients

If you were among the 1400 individuals in attendance at the recent Blackboard Users Conference, you are already aware of the Blackboard Transaction System - Universal Edition™ – the new edition of the Blackboard Transaction System.

The Universal Edition is considered a new edition rather than a new release. According to Ron Dinwiddie, Sr. Director of Product Development for Blackboard, “it is the third edition of the Blackboard Transaction System (following the Unix and Windows-based systems).“

Sticking to its plan for a contactless rollout in 2012, Australian retailer Coles has selected Ingenico to provide its Ingenico iPP350 contactless payment terminals.

According to finextra.com, the Aussie retailer first piloted the technology in September 2011, and has since decided to expand. All business groups will deploy the new iPP350 across 24,000 lanes within the next few months, making the retailer one of the first in Australia to offer the contactless payment option.

According to Blackboard, after just 90 days in the marketplace the service now serves clients in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom. More than 200 school districts, higher education institutions and local governments have signed on.

Russia has pushed back the launch of its universal eID card to January 2013, reports The Moscow Times.

Originally scheduled to roll out this month, the card is supposed to function as an electronic ID, driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, ATM card and immigration document, along with other possible features.
