Smart Cards Introduced to Nigeria’s Higher Education Institutions

Wednesday, January 1, 2003 in News

The technical partners behind the Nigeria’s smart card project known as, Supercard, are Datacard, Gemplus, Microsoft and Compaq. The purpose behind the Supercard project is to generate a secure and credible information database of all students. The database would then be useful as an instrument to create an equally secure, fraud-free and forge-proof identification for students and staff of the institutions. In addition to improving the quality of the education institutions this project also promotes technological development and industrial growth across the country. 19 institutions are signed up for the first phase of the Supercard project, which was introduced after a successful pilot run of the project at the University of Lagos and the Yaba College of Technology where the Supercard is in full use. [end]
